How to Find and Hire Great Freelance Talent

Hiring freelancers has many great benefits for small business owners.

It’s pretty easy to get the job done if you choose to hire a freelancer.

You don’t need to rent an office. With freelancers, you’ll be able to create a remote team and do business online successfully.

Dealing with freelancers provides employers with flexibility. Obviously, it makes no sense to hire full-time employees to get one-time jobs done.

Freelancers can be hired both for full-time and part-time projects for big jobs and small ones. You can contact freelancers anytime when such a need arises.

Small business owners can use freelance sites to get different types of works done. These include:

·      content writing

·      graphic design

·      3D design

·      HTML coding

·      website development

·      project management

·      programming

·      customer support

·      online marketing

·      search engine optimization

·      social media promotion

·      and many others

Actually, this list could go on and on. Skilled freelancers can help you with any of your online business needs.

It’s incredibly important to hire great freelance talent to get the work done in the best possible way. With so many freelancers available for work these days, picking the right talent for a project can be hard.

On the other hand, things will go easy if you know how to select freelancers for a project. Today, we’ll provide you with the tips for hiring freelancers to boost your business success.

So, let’s get started.

Shortlist Applicants

Once you create a job on a freelance site, freelancers will start applying for your project. After that, you have to pick the freelancers that meet your project’s requirements.

Obviously, you have to make the best possible choice. However, you must be prepared that it takes some time to analyze the profile of each candidate carefully and make a decision.

You must be very selective when it comes to hiring freelancers for work. Remember that the success of your project depends a lot on your choice.

It would be better to shortlist candidates first. Give a preference to the highly skilled freelancers, who have experience in doing similar projects.

Let’s say that 20 freelancers have applied for your project. In this case, you have to pick 5 freelancers for your short list.

Freelance sites provide entrepreneurs with the filters for selecting employees. Filters are designed to make it easy to find the right candidates for jobs.

It’s a great idea to use these filters to shortlist freelancers. If you take advantage of filters, then you’ll be able to sort freelancers by the following criteria:

·      location

·      number of projects

·      success rate

·      price

Later, you’ll have to consider the shortlisted candidates. Now, you have to take a closer look at each of shortlisted candidates and compare them to each other.

Analyze Freelancer’s Portfolio Carefully

It would be better to pick an experienced freelancer, who has already done similar jobs. On the other hand, you shouldn’t hire a freelancer who has no prior experience with a job similar to the one that you have created.

The best thing you can do to find out about a freelancer’s experience is to analyze his/her portfolio. Keep in mind that freelance sites allow employees to create portfolios and show samples of their work to potential clients.

Pay close attention to a freelancer’s portfolio. A small business owner has to study the freelancer’s past work samples carefully.

The reality is, a portfolio can tell you a lot about freelancer’s experience. If a freelancer has no portfolio, then most likely he/she has no work experience.

Do you find that a freelancer has work samples, which are similar to your project? If so, you can either shortlist or hire such a freelancer to get the work done.

Check Freelancer’s Reviews

What is great about freelance sites is that they allow employers to leave reviews on freelancers they have worked with in the past. Reviews provide employers with the information about many important aspects such as:

·      work quality

·      skills

·      deadlines

·      communication

When leaving a review, a small business owner can express his/her opinion about a freelancer and share his/her work experience with other employers. If you analyze reviews, you’ll find it easy to understand if a freelancer is worth your time and money.

Spend some time to read the reviews of each freelancer, who has applied for your job. Try to find out what exactly employers like or dislike about freelancers.

Hiring a freelancer without reviews can be risky, but such freelancers provide their services at lower prices.

Clearly, you have to hire a freelancer with good reviews. Freelancers, who have the vast majority of positive reviews, would be the perfect choice.   And of course, freelancers with bad reviews should be avoided.

Conduct an Interview

Some projects may require an interview. During an interview with a freelancer, you will be able to learn more about his/her skills, work experience, etc.

But most importantly, an interview gives an employer and a freelancer an opportunity to dig deeper into the project’s details and discuss many important questions ahead of time.

It would be great to schedule an interview with a freelancer prior to hiring them. An interview can be conducted by phone, via Skype or an online chat function on a freelancer’s website.

What impression does a freelancer make on you? If you feel it comfortable to communicate with the freelancer of your choice, then this person can be hired.

A Paid Test

In fact, there are many things that employers can do increase their chance for success with a freelancer. However, the only way to see how a freelancer works is to test his/her skills.

You can ask a freelancer to do a small job for you first and then analyze the quality of his/her work. If things go well with a test task, then you can hire a freelancer for a project.
