When to hire a Freelancer
It is a great question. Ultimately, there are a couple of things you want to look at. The first one simply is, what are the demands of your business currently? Is there a role or a task that needs to be filled that you simply do not have either the time or the manpower to accomplish that task? Certainly, for you as a business owner, one of the things you need to be evaluating is: What is the highest and best use of your time? Business owners should figure out what their time is worth on an hourly basis to better assess what tasks should be outsourced. If a business owner’s time is worth $250 per hour, they certainly do not want to be spending their time doing tasks that they could pay someone else $15 or $20 an hour to accomplish.
One of the other factors that you want to consider is what is currently happening in your business. Are you at a place where freelancing could help you scale your business to a much larger level? You could bring in talent that you need, without the expense of having to hire additional in-house employees. This means you are not paying benefits, not paying extra utilities, not having to provide a workspace and a computer and all of the overhead that goes with those in-house hires. Using a freelancer is a way to scale up your business, bring in additional manpower, but do it in a very efficient cost-effective manner.
Something else you want to consider. Is it the right time to hire a freelancer? What specializations do you need to leverage to take your business further? You may be at a place where being able to bring in an additional source of talent, that you do not currently have, will allow you to expand your product or service offerings. This is something that many business owners utilize with freelancing. It is the ability to add additional value-added services to their customer base so that they can grow their business larger. They can grow their business with more depth, and they can become more competitive in their current environment.
